S-PACE began in Pisa in 2022 as a series of ideas about innovation in peace. At first, these ideas took the form of reflections, small theoretical propositions and light policy proposals rather than a defined organisation.

S-PACE brings research and practice together without pretending that peace can be reduced to a single discipline, method or answer.
The start
From three encounters to an independent lab.
That same year, three public encounters brought questions of peace into the city. They created a first space for dialogue outside specialist environments and gave the project its earliest material form.
The project entered an incubation phase in which its scope, language and working model became more coherent.
It now returns as an independent research and practice lab: a framework through which questions can be investigated, methods can be designed, and selected ideas can meet real contexts.

Nicolò Ricci Bitti
Nicolò Ricci Bitti specialises in conflict management, peace theory and international counter-terrorism. His experience includes high-intensity institutional settings, particularly overcrowded prisons in Italy.
His work focuses on alternatives to detention, probation, restorative justice, human rights, dialogue and disarmament.
